Summary:
The CVOR Scrub Nurse Specialist is a professional scrub nurse in the operating room who, with minimal supervision, assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of CV patients who require a surgical procedure.
Responsibilities:
Arrange operating room, instruments, and equipment prior to procedure •Ensure proper sterile field and preparation of the sterile field
•Remove and properly clean equipment, instruments, etc. at the conclusion of all procedures Responsible for comprehension of the procedure, the surgeon's preferences, and routine, while assisting the surgeon and surgeon’s assistant, handing them instruments and supplies required during operation
•Accept and appropriately transfer specimens •Properly handle tissue and implants •Shows accountability and expertise by prioritizing actions based on the patient's changing status Establish a collaborative partnership with the surgeons and other team members, communicate effectively to anticipate needs, and ensure that everything is readily available and set up for the procedure
•Works with the CVOR nursing team to staff CV surgical patients, including holiday, night and weekend call coverage
•Fosters a professional culture grounded in a solid understanding of pediatric cardiac surgical procedures •Knowledgeable about the heart lung bypass machine functionality, tubing, and circuit connections
Other information:
- Assist in the orientation of professional and non-professional personnel as needed.
- Participates in departmental and hospital in service programs and committees as required.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives for optimal outcomes.
- Assumes responsibility for other assignments as requested.
- Knows AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and is an expert in the Principles of Sterile Technique.
- Knowledgeable regarding specialized CV instrumentation and maintenance.
- Demonstrates understanding of hemodynamic parameters and uses this knowledge to anticipate needs
Demonstrates interpretation of electrocardiographic information to continually access patient needs
Has the ability to be flexible and versatile while maintaining a calm demeanor
Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
* Basic Life Support
Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Associate of Science Nursing in Nursing
Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:
Schedule: Monday-Friday with call shifts., Day Shift, 8-Hour Shifts
