Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift, nurse scientist.
Summary:
The Nurse Scientist is responsible for operationalizing, maintaining, and evaluating the organization's nursing research and evidence-based practice (EBP) activities. The Nurse Scientist is a change agent and a system-wide leader responsible for implementing an infrastructure that supports nurses in shaping the work environment by assuring their practice is evidence-based and nursing knowledge is generated through research. The Nurse Scientist will promote a culture of inquiry to bridge the gap between research and practice by engaging nurses in research and EBP with a focus on guiding the development of an infrastructure of resources, including mentors and coaches. Activities may include working with shared governance councils, developing workflows and processes to meet program needs, staying abreast of current literature on key programmatic and practice areas, identifying and leading program improvements, and providing feedback and guidance for nursing leaders. The Nurse Scientist’s work is integrally involved and aligned with the goals of maintaining COA’s Magnet® designation and the organization’s and nursing’s strategic plans. The nurse scientist mentors novice nurse researchers, teaches staff about nursing research and evidence-based practice, and works to procure outside funding in support of nursing research.

The Nursing Professional Development Center offers the following to health care professionals working at Children’s of Alabama: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) programs American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support (PALS) programs Neonatal Resuscitation Program Nursing Service Orientation Clinical Assistant/Unit Support Staff orientation Transition into Practice for newly graduated nurses Education support and consultation Pediatric continuing education programs (Alabama Board of Nursing and American Nurses Credentialing Center approved providers) Coordination of clinicals and preceptorships for schools and colleges of nursing
