In Language Services at Main Campus Children's of Alabama

Work schedule will be Part-time Benefits Eligible on the Day shift, Monday-Friday 11-3pm.

Summary:
First line provider of Interpreter Services to Spanish speaking patients and families throughout Children's of Alabama.

Other information:
Strong verbal and written skills in both English and Spanish.
Working knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity.
Ability to work with COA Staff and patient/families in crisis situations and ability to effectively resolve crisis situations.
Strong interpersonal and self management skills used to facilitate communication as well as ability to remain impartial and objective during communication with patient/families and COA staff.

Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:

Nonessential:
* Certified Medical Interpreter

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Bachelors of Science or Arts or 1 Year Staff Level

Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* 2 Years job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Interpreter

The Language Services Department ensures that patients and families with limited English proficiency or who are Deaf or hard of hearing receive clear, compassionate, and equitable communication throughout their care experience. The team provides qualified medical interpreters in person, by phone, and via video, as well as written translation of vital documents. In collaboration with clinical and support teams, Language Services helps meet regulatory standards, supports culturally responsive care, and works to reduce language barriers that can impact health outcomes.
