Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift, 8:00 am- 4: 30 pm 4 days per week- off day may vary.

Summary:

The Diabetes Educator is a professional registered nurse who is an expert in the care of a defined patient population within a specialty clinic or subspecialty area. The clinician assumes a leadership role and supervisory responsibilities in the development, organization, and implementation of care and services for this patient population. The role integrates direct patient care, education, consultation, and research/quality improvement to support high-quality, patient- and family-centered care across Specialty Care Services.

Other information:

Previous demonstration of expert clinical management, teaching, research and consultation skills in the subspecialty population. Must obtain CDCES within 3 years of assuming the role.

Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Dietician ABOED and Registered Dietician CDR
* Certified Diabetes Educator
* Basic Life Support
Nonessential:
* Basic Life Support Instructor

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Masters Degree in Food and Nutrition or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing and 4 Years job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nursing General
- Masters of Science Nursing in Nursing and 3 Years job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nursing General
- Bachelors of Science or Arts in Food and Nutrition and 2 Years job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nutrition

Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:

Nonessential:
* 1 Year job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nutrition

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Children’s of Alabama provides comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic treatment of a broad range of pediatric endocrine and diabetes disorders. This is a high volume, fast-paced clinic that features 30 clinical exam rooms, 6 triage bays, 2 stimulation testing rooms, 1 procedure room, and 3 classrooms to be able to accommodate a large volume of patients. The Endocrine Clinic is supported by 12 Endocrinologists, 6 Fellows, and 10 Nurse Practitioners. The Endocrine Clinic also has multiple areas of support staff including Diabetes Educators, Insulin Pump Educators, Clinic Nurses, Endocrine Nurses, Clinic Aides, and Secretarial staff.
