Work schedule will be Flexi PRN on the Day shift, 8-4:30.

Summary:
The Junior League of Birmingham Sunshine School is a school based program, staffed by certified teachers, and designed to serve children with unique educational needs due to chronic health issues. The staff facilitates the exchange of information among families, hospital personnel and the patient's school; advocates for the patient's needs upon return to the school setting; communicates all information necessary to enhance the patient's educational experience; and educates all involved concerning the patient's unique needs and requirements while hospitalized, at home or attending school.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
• Master’s degree preferred

Experience

• 3 years of classroom experience preferred
• Additional education will be accepted in lieu of experience

Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

• Must be certified by the state of Alabama with a current teaching certificate
• Certification in Special Education is preferred

• An Education Liaison/Teacher must have a sense of personal responsibility, integrity, commitment and caring and must demonstrate ethical behavior in the performance of all duties.
• An Education Liaison/Teacher must demonstrate an eagerness and ability to work cooperatively with others for the purpose of fulfilling Children’s of Alabama mission and vision.
• An Education Liaison/Teacher must have a working knowledge of federal and state special education laws and the special education process.
• An Education Liaison/Teacher must demonstrate knowledge of child development and growth, be able to adapt lessons to meet students’ needs, interpret academic test results, and work well with a multidisciplinary team.
• An Education Liaison/Teacher must demonstrate leadership skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
• An Education Liaison/Teacher must demonstrate open-mindedness, flexibility and a positive attitude.
