Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift, M-F 8-4:30.
Summary:
2. The PT & OT assistant ensures that the physical and occupational therapists are practicing at the top of their scope by providing essential, often non-billable services for patients. Some of these duties include: providing education; being a liaison and key communicator between departments; providing assistance in patient care for patients who require an additional set of hands to evaluate and treat; assistance to department coordinators and director in maintaining PT & OT inventory; providing patient transportation to and from therapy sessions under the supervision of a therapist; cleaning, organizing, rounding and maintenance of all department staff and patient care areas; day to day supervision of department interns, volunteers and other students; helping with various department projects; assistance in ordering and organizing of supplies and equipment; assistance with data collection; assistance to clerical staff by answering telephone, taking messages, greeting patients and their families, registering patients, copy and filing.
Other information:
• Strong organizational skills, time management and attention to detail. Is a team player and demonstrates flexibility. Must be comfortable handling confidential information. Prefer strong computer skills and previous filing experience. Comfortable being in a hospital environment and around patient care.

The PT & OT Department at Children’s of Alabama encompasses the following clinical areas/services: inpatient hospital (Benjamin Russell and McWane buildings), outpatient hospital (McWane), outpatient Children’s on 3rd, outpatient at Lakeshore, Sports Medicine PT (Lowder building), Early Intervention (EI), and the Comprehensive Behavioral Interventions for Tics (CBIT clinic). We employ over 30 of each PT/PTA and OT/COTA staff members in addition to 4 EI Service Coordinators, 2 Speech Therapists, 4 Aides, and other support staff. We are involved with patient care in all areas of the hospital including pediatric/cardiac/neonatal intensive care units, Pulmonary, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, Burns, Hematology/Oncology, general surgery, special care unit, same day surgery, and are frequently called upon to assist with skilled therapy needs in countless hospital-based outpatient clinics. We have a highly advanced robotics program, 3D gait lab, casting clinic, and a well-respected and established Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy program. We care for children birth to 18 with a wide variety of physical, sensory, and/or functional impairments. We emphasize family-centered and episodic care in our outpatient locations and seek to empower and engage parents/custodians as the primary caregiver, advocate, and cheerleader for their child.
