Taking Respiratory Care to the Next Level

Kathy Roberts has been a team member at Children’s as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for just six months. As one of our new hires, she shared her experiences and talks about the innovation of the Respiratory Care team at Children’s of Alabama.

“In comparison to my previous jobs, Children’s is a world of a difference.”

Being a part of the Respiratory Care team at Children’s, Kathy reveals, is hard work but is also very rewarding. She has been an RRT for almost 5 years and shares:

“There is such a sense of pride in our work at Children’s and it has been amazing. In our unit we emphasize teamwork and patient centered care. Helping these patients is so fulfilling.”

Respiratory care is a passion of Kathy’s, and at Children’s she was able to renew her passion for helping children:

“When I started at Children’s I fell in love with the field all over again. The kids we work with are our focus. All of our work centers around them and it is so rewarding to see how we are impacting the lives of these children.”  

“I’m able to further my education here, which increases my knowledge and the care we can provide the patients that come to Children’s.”

Kathy’s orientation at Children’s lasted four weeks. During this time she learned about the technology we use, shadowed a long term therapist and learned from the staff. Her teammates helped get her ready to carve her own successful path at Children’s.

Along with the knowledge gained during orientation, Kathy has kept learning over the past few months that she’s been at Children’s. Daily huddles, new patient cases and opportunities for attending educational events ensure our team is always learning and growing in their careers.
