Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift shift, 5:30am - 2:00pm.
Summary:
The Operating Room Nurse II is a highly motivated professional nurse and skilled clinician who with minimal supervision assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of surgical patients in the perioperative setting. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient-and family centered care in the perioperative setting. Requires flexible, self directed RN with the ability to work in any phase of the perioperative setting and a willingness to float between the areas in the perioperative setting as needed. Demonstrates strong assessment skills and competence in decision making in the delivery of care to patients and families. Implements and maintains the appropriate standard of care based on age specific categories recommended by the Medical Executive Committee. Contributes to the Children's Hospital Mission - TO PROVIDE THE FINEST PEDIATRIC HEALTH SERVICES TO ALL CHILDREN IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AND MEDICAL EDUCATION. THE HOSPITAL WILL SERVE AS AN ADVOCATE TO ALL CHILDREN AND WORK TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT ISSUES AFFECTING CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
Other information:
- Requires flexible, self directed staff with the ability to work any of the phases of the perioperative setting
- Basic knowledge of hospital based software programs
- Serve as a resource regarding hospital, unit level policies, procedures, and standards of care
- Expert in the use of monitoring equipment utilized in the perioperative and perianesthesia setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
- Routinely serves as mentor and resource for other staff and new employee
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required within one year of hire. Completes and passes the Perioperative 101 Course if no previous experience as an ORTor OR nurse, or scrub/circulator role
- Minimum of three years in the perioperative setting (OR, PACU or Pre-Op) Professional nurse who is expert in the delivery of patient care within the subspecialty areas. A minimum of three years of experience in the perioperative setting OR five years in a critical care setting is required
- Current BLS Certification
- Current Alabama Registered Nurse License required
Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:

- Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
* Basic Life Support
* Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Children's South Surgery is an ambulatory surgical clinic with 6 ORs that provides comprehensive outpatient surgical services to the pediatric population. We strive to provide excellent customer service and are uniquely equipped to guide the pediatric patient and their families through the pre-operative, operative procedure, recovery and post-operative phases of surgery. Our staff care for patients having minor procedures in a wide variety of specialties including otolaryngology (ENT), ophthalmology, dermatology, urology and orthopedic surgeries. All staff are required to work in multiple areas of the perioperative process including Pre op/Post op, Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. In addition, we support main campus Surgical Services by floating to the downtown location on occasion to maintain appropriate staffing. Our goal is to ensure that the patient moves safely and smoothly through the phases of surgery while normalizing the surgical environment to the patient. We equip the patient and their families to recover from their procedure and return to their lives ready to thrive.
