Director of AP & Purchasing

Summary:

Responsible for developing and implementing an efficient procurement strategy aligning with organizational goals & strategies, while managing all purchase & payments to vendors/ suppliers. This role ensures compliance with purchasing policies, financial oversight of materials management and accounts payable processes, and effective management of supplier relationships. This role manages and integrates all strategic sourcing initiatives and works in conjunction with the Supply Chain team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily activities of materials management & accounts payable teams
  • Hire, develop and direct materials management and accounts payable personnel
  • Develop, maintain and communicate procurement policies & procedures
  • Ensure team’s knowledge, communication, and adherence to policies and procedures
  • Communicate and monitor compliance of procurement policies and procedures throughout the organization
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to optimize cost savings and operational efficiency
  • Manage vendor and supplier selection process by working with key internal stakeholders, along with supply chain, developing a vendor selection based on price, quality, support, capacity, and reliability for the product or service requirements that are detailed in the bid or purchasing requirements
  • Work with suppliers to identify and resolve issues and identify improvements and cost savings opportunities
  • Continually monitor and measure value, savings, supplier performance and internal service levels
  • Evaluate contracts to ensure compliance with legal requirements and organizational policies
  • Ensure timely payment processing
  • Manage and resolve vendor disputes, maintaining strong communication both internally and externally
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and procedures
  • Responsible for annual departmental budget preparation and compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience Requirements:

  • 5-8 years purchasing experience required, with at least 2 years previous supervisory experience.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field or 8+ years’ experience in related field
  • Master’s Degree Preferred

Certification Requirements:

  • Preferred accreditation from Purchasing Management Society or American Purchasing Society
