Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift shift, M-F.
Summary:
Employee is responsible for coding for Ancillary, Observations and ED patient types in accordance with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT rules and internal HIM policies. Employee will be required to physically report to HIM department for 6 months. Timeline for remote reporting is based on the discretion of the Coding Manager/HIM Director based on individual performance. Employee will be required to physically report to HIM department for 6 months. After the six month period, if the employee meets accuracy goal of 95% and productivity standards, the employee will be able to work remotely. If the employee is able to consistently meet accuracy and productivity for Ancillary, Observations and ED patient types the employee will be trained on Same Day Surgeries (SDS). All coding will be assigned based on ICD-10-CM/PCS Basic Coding Guidelines, CPT AMA Coding Guidelines, official HCFA (CMS) Guidelines (when appropriate), and Children's of Alabama MIS Departmental Coding Guidelines.
Other information:
Effective January 1, 2024, the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential & the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) credential are no longer accepted for new hires in this role. Employees hired prior to this date with a CPC or CCA credential are grandfathered and remain compliant.

Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Registered Health Information Technician or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
    - Registered Health Information Administrator
    - Certified Coding Specialist
Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Associates Degree
Nonessential:
* Bachelors of Science or Arts
Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* 2 Years Staff Level
