Summary:
Responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of patient care on the assigned shift. Supervises and evaluates work performance in accordance with established criteria-based standards of performance. Responsible for the coordination of clinical operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the care delivery system.
  • Monitors and supervises training and education for team members. 
  • Supports the orientation program as provided by the Nursing Education and Research Department along with the unit-level orientation. 
  • Continuously assess the needs of the unit population, staff, patients, and families. 
  • Keep up-to-date with clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based practices within the nursing profession.
  • Participates in updating and upholding standards of practice and be a role model to others for maintaining the standards. 
  • Assists in monitoring staff performance, behavior, and competency on their respective shift. 
  • Participates in the selection and onboarding of new employees. 
  • Promotes, facilitates, and provides education about new practice changes, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies to team members on their shifts. 
  • Assign and delegate patient care tasks as appropriate, considering staff members' level of nursing experience, competency, and knowledge. 
  • Be fiscally responsible by ensuring appropriate staffing levels for departmental needs, monitoring supplies, and managing equipment. 
  • Act as a consultant to all members of the interdisciplinary team.

Other information:
Education

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing, which must be achieved within three years of starting the role.
  • An Associate's degree RN currently in the role may be grandfathered in.
Experience

  • Bachelors in nursing or related field with 2 years or more of clinical nursing experience preferred including 1 year of recent pediatric/psych/OR nursing experience preferred.

Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

  • Current RN License in the State of Alabama.
  • Current BLS certification.

Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Basic Life Support
* Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
    - Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
    - Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing

Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:

Nonessential:
* 2 Years job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nursing Acute
