Summary
An Office Medical Assistant II - Advanced is a vital member of the clinical team, responsible for facilitating efficient patient flow and providing high-quality clinical support. This role involves a blend of direct patient care—including triage, specimen collection, and basic imaging—and administrative coordination to ensure the practice meets OSHA, COA, and PCMH standards. The ideal candidate brings at least three years of experience and a strong ability to manage both the physical and technical demands of a fast-paced medical environment.
Responsibilities:
● Call and accompany patients from the waiting room to the exam room.
● Triage patients by obtaining a brief history, identifying the reason for the visit, and performing necessary prep work for the physician’s exam.
● Conduct telephone triage, provide clinical advice within the scope of practice and escalate urgent concerns to a provider.
● Perform capillary and venipuncture blood draws, collect urine specimens, oral and nasal swab as required.
● Perform laboratory testing (waived and moderate complexity) with accurate, real-time documentation of the results with in the Electronic Medical Record.
● Conduct audiograms, visual exams.
● Prepare and administer nebulizer treatments as directed by the physician.
● Perform ear irrigation when needed.
● Dressing minor wounds and perform other first aid basic procedures with physician authorizations.
● Restrain patients as needed during examination/procedures.
● Administer immunizations and therapeutic injections or oral medication as directed by the physician.
● Prepare and submit medical instruments for sterilization according to OSHA and COA protocols.
● Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
● Clean and sanitize exam rooms between patients and report any clinical supply needs to the supervisor to ensure uninterrupted care.
Administrative & Coordination Duties
● Maintain an orderly patient flow by directing physicians and coordinating patient movement between the clinical exam rooms, the laboratory, and the X-ray suite.
● Call in or electronically submit prescriptions for patients as directed by the physician.
● Accurately complete required documents including but not limited to (immunization records, school/work/daycare excuses, sports physicals, WIC, etc.) for physician signature.
● Schedule appointments including (shot only, lab only, follow-up, and conferences).
● Obtain precertification/preauthorization and assist with referrals as needed.
● Perform PCMH chart reviews for completeness, ensuring all preventative care gaps are identified.
● Request medical records from outside facilities as needed and input historical immunization data into the EMR.
● Participate in daily clinical huddles to review the schedule, anticipate patient needs, and coordinate care plans.
● Distribute educational brochures and pamphlets.
● Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience
● High school diploma or GED.
● 3 years of Medical Assistant experience required, CMA/RMA certification preferred.
Schedule: 8 am - 5 pm M - F and rotating Saturdays 8-noon, Day Shift, Monday-Friday Standard Days
